March of 1857 a African American name Dred Scott was in trail at the Supreme Court were he was fighting to get his freedom when he move back to a slave state. Dred Scott lived in the state of Illinois were it was a slave free state until before moving back to the slave state of Missouri. when Scott was captured he tried to tell the slave owners of Missouri that he was a free slave, but during that time no one from the south would believe him. Dred Scott even went to the Supreme Court in hopes of being free once again. A man by the name of Taney tried saying because of the skin color of Scott, he had no right to sue. Even farmers who were part of the Constitution said," blacks had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and that the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit. He was bought and sold and treated as an ordinary article of merchandise and traffic, whenever profit could be made by it." Dred Scott even fought back for his rights , but in the long run Taney had better arquments for saying why Scott shouldn't get his rights back.
