Internship Immersion Photo Essay

1. A day at Caltrans district 11 starts by going through a large door that would remind you of the one in Jurassic park. When I started I did not know what to expect but I had seen the building before when passing by. I was scared because the door was huge. I then said to himself “I wonder what they got in there King Kong?”

2. After I enter the court area I always start my day by going up the same stairs because I hate seeing people taking the elevators. I personally think it’s healthier to take the stairs because you get to feel the fresh air and get exercise before a day of work.

3. Once I enter the building I say hello to my coworker Thomas and tell my mentor Mary Alim that I’ve arrived and I’m ready to start working. I usually get there thirty minutes early and once I start working I don’t stop. Many times when I work nonstop, my desk is usually a mess. While working in my cubical I’ve been working on the Org Chart for the Construction department. The chart is used to know who’s working where and it give, Headquarters info on the employees like phone, cell numbers, office locations, email addresses, and pictures. The one I’ve been working on is going to be the web so it can help people locate the employees faster. It might also help Headquarters save papers.

4. Lunch time is usually known as everyone’s favorite time of the day; at around 11:30am I get my lunch at the cafeteria. I usually spend up to $6.48 include tax and get a meal with a 24oz drink. I also get it to go because I have having long breaks. Once I walk up my stairs, again I go straight to my cubical and eat. After the whole eating happens, I continue working nonstop. Until its time to go get pictures from the fifth floor.

5. When I arrive in the fifth floor I usually ask Ms. Joan if I can get picture out of the Caltrans database. While I’m there I find over two hundred plus pictures of many employees that work for district 11. I do this for about three hours, I usually just talk to employees so I don’t get bored but I also try also try not to get distracted by my talking.

6. Everyday when I leave my internship I usually feel it has made me more of a responsible, organized, and talented person to my fellow coworkers and mentor. It even gave me a better view of how Caltrans helps improve with transportation mobility across California. I have even got familiar with new programs like Org plus 7 and excel. From my experience at my internship I have changed the way I see the work world.
